Born and raised in Rocky Mount North Carolina, Jimmy Craig Womble received his BA in Environmental Design from the School of Design at North Carolina State University. Artist Statement: North Carolina's landscape is changing. Quaint beach houses all along the coast have been torn down, supplanted with cookie-cutter condos and ten bedroom monstrosities. Farm land once covered in beans, corn, and tobacco now grow subdivisions, put up as fast as a season's crop matures. Mirroring the American way, we just tear down the old and put up new. I strive to show the beauty in the old, perhaps encouraging others to see it in a new light, as something to build upon or re-use. Our future demands we build upon the past, not just bury it. |
